Key Information

Summer Associates

SWH’s summer associates take an active role in our cases. In a typical summer, our summer associates will draft portions of complaints, participate in complex discovery, draft portions of dispositive briefs, participate in mediation and settlement negotiations, and help prepare cases for trial. Summer associates have second-chaired depositions and been part of on-site trial teams.

Much like the rest of our team, SWH’s summer associates have impressive academic credentials and a demonstrated dedication to public interest and social justice causes. Our 2010 Summer Associate Class drew from Yale, Stanford, Harvard and Columbia. Recent summer associates have also attended NYU, University of Michigan, and the University of Pennsylvania.

SWH is currently accepting applications for our 2011 Summer Class

We will hire five to six summers in our DC office, two to three summers in our New York office, and will include two summer associates in our San Francisco office.  Because of the substantive nature of our summer program, we generally require a 12 week commitment, and we tend to disfavor requests for splits.

We hire both first and second year law students.  Second year students are encouraged to submit their materials as soon as possible as decisions on 2L applicants are made on a rolling basis. First year students should submit their applications as soon as NALP guidelines allow. We traditionally hold several positions for first year students.

We are an equal opportunity employer and strongly encourage minority candidates to apply.

All applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, unofficial transcript, and two writing samples to careers@swhlegal.com with the subject heading “2011 Summer Associate Application: DC/SF/NY.” Please only list those cities in which you are interested in working. All materials should be submitted in .doc or .pdf form. Failure to conform to these guidelines may result in your application being discarded.
