Kate Nelson graduated from Yale University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in the Humanities. She received the Branford Arts Prize for her outstanding contributions to the arts.
While at Yale, Ms. Nelson volunteered in the New Haven public schools and served as a translator for Habitat for Humanity in Guatemala. Immediately following her graduation from Yale, Ms. Nelson taught 8th Grade English in Los Angeles through Teach For America. In that capacity, she led her 120 students to average more than 2 years of growth in reading; was selected to design the English curriculum; mentored incoming TFA teachers; and was active in the LA Diversity Committee. Ms. Nelson also was the 2005 U.S. National Champion in U.S. Synchronized Team Figure Skating.
She plans to attend law school in the future.
